The West Florissant Avenue Project Preliminary Design phase involves varied professional services like engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, data analysis and public relations. Therefore, it provides a  great opportunity to involve the next generation of talented young professionals in and around Ferguson and Dellwood. The West Florissant Avenue Project has created a On the Job Training (OJT) program to help provide job training, education and workforce development through paid internships for minority students interested in the skills and services performed during the Preliminary Design study. The team has made concerted effort to identify and place interns from Dellwood, Ferguson and other surrounding communities.


The OJT program’s goals are to provide interns with professional experience for future job opportunities, help them become invested in this important community project, and benefit the Project team with their passion and interest in West Florissant Avenue’s future. Interns will work with:

Civil engineers – Roadway designers, stormwater designers, utility coordinators

Community leaders


Electrical engineers

Environmental scientists

Event coordinators

Geotechnical and traffic engineers

Grant writers

Landscape architects

Media and public relations specialists

Transit specialists

Urban planners

Land surveyors


The Project team partnered with Harris-Stowe State University, St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley, and the Ferguson Youth Initiative to identify potential interns.
